Hello, my name is Charles Collins, and I am the current Northern Regional Director for the TNSA. I am entering my second semester as a nursing student at Collin College, nestled in the northern suburbs of Dallas. I am excited to have the opportunity to serve the TNSA chapters here in North Texas. My goals for the year are to see participation across the region increase, to see increased communication between the schools in the region, and to solidify the relationship between the local chapters and the TNSA Board. To further those ends, I am here to support the local chapters in any way possible. I hope that every school in the region will take the opportunity to send members to the Council of Schools meeting in Austin this September. Conferences are a great way to meet new people from other schools and to learn about both nursing school issues and the nursing profession. I will be chairing the Image of Nursing committee, which is aimed at improving the public face of nursing by publicizing nursing accomplishments, as well as dispelling negative or false impressions of nursing. I will also be co-chairing the Programs & Projects committee. Regional participation is welcomed, and those that are interested in either area should contact me. Speaking of participation, I hope that everyone will feel free to contact me about any concerns, ideas, or anything else that your local chapter or members want assistance with. I look forward to meeting you all over the course of the year. |

Hi TNSA Members, Advisors, and Supporters, I am excited to serve as your Southern Regional Director for the 2009-2010 term. Please allow me to introduce myself. I am a senior nursing student at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing. I am from Tehuacana, Texas, a small community near Waco, and relocated to Austin in 2004. Prior to this term, I have held the offices of President of the UT Nursing Students Association, and Treasurer of both UTNSA and the Longhorn Association for Men in Nursing. I have been a Clinical Assistant on the Hematology-Oncology-Endocrinology Inpatient unit at Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas (formerly Children’s Hospital of Austin) since September 2006, and I plan to work there as a nurse upon graduating in December. As Southern Regional Director, I am responsible for representing, assisting, and communicating with the 18 local chapters in the Southern Region. I am also co-chair of the TNSA Policy and Projects Committee and chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee. During my term, I plan to uphold the duties of office, organize a seminar for the Southern Region, and present, involve, and disseminate news to all TNSA local chapters and members on legislative bills pertinent to health care. I look forward to the beginning of the school year and will help you all in any way I can. |

My name is April Gregory, and I am a senior nursing student at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock, Texas. I serve as the Western Regional Director of TNSA. My responsibility in this position is to actively promote an increased communication between schools in West Texas. By doing this, we will create a gateway for greater improvement in the effectiveness of this organization. Additionally, I will attend state-wide meetings to represent the western region. In June, I attended our second Board of Directors meeting in Arlington, where we discussed the 2009 Council of Schools and 2010 Convention, among other matters. Moreover, I believe that collaboration between all four regions is vital to the success of TNSA. In that light, I will encourage attendance at conventions, because I believe they are valuable learning experiences that allow nursing students from all over the state and nation to come together with the same purpose. I would love to see us have more opportunities to carry out the mission of TNSA, which is dedicated to promoting professionalism and leadership for today’s nursing students. I look forward to meeting many of you in the year ahead. Please feel free to let me know your thoughts or provide feedback on how best I can serve you in TNSA. |

Hello, my name is Consuela Harrison-Riley and I am a nursing student at Houston Baptist University School of Nursing and Allied Health. I was elected as your 2009-2010 Eastern Regional Director for TNSA. I am originally from New Orleans, La., but have resided in both Houston and now Humble since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. I am a mother of five and the wife of a very understanding and supportive man that handles extra household duties so I can be of service to the members of TNSA. My future goals are to work part-time in Psychiatric nursing and full-time in Labor and Delivery (my true love), and then further my education for my Masters degree in Midwifery and if God says the same, a Doctorate degree. As your Eastern Regional Director of TNSA, my duties are to maintain on-going communication between the TNSA Board of Directors and the chapters within the Eastern division, assist chapters with areas of concern on the local level, provide reminders of events pertaining to TNSA, and report news of chapter activities to the Central Line and Imprint. I will also organize a seminar for the Eastern region, assist with membership drives as needed, and maintain and update the general chapter information form. So far I have organized a list of colleges and organizational contacts for the Eastern Region and will start all calls in August. I have also prepared a letter with a list of committee chairs that will be sent to the Presidents and Advisors of each college within the Eastern region. This will allow the organizations to contact the correct person from each committee, if they are in need of assistance. This will help promote a more positive outcome for their organization. I have been named chair of the Breakthrough to Nursing committee. As chair, I will work closely with Mrs. Carolyn Holesely to promote career opportunities in nursing to minority students, increase the number of candidates from minority groups who apply to and enter schools of nursing, encourage the nursing educational system to be more responsive to the needs of minority students, and create a successful program to promote breakthrough into nursing and minority enrollment for the NSNA national contest. I am also Co-chairing the Resolutions committee, where I will have part in the editing, rewriting, and/or combining of two or more resolutions that call for the same actions. I will also assist with any clarifications, fact or style, of each resolution submitted for this particular year. I would like to take this moment to thank you for your time and your future support in continuing to make TNSA one of the many positive goals of nursing students. God bless and keep you all and I look forward to working with you. |
