Hello, my name is Hollie Williams and it is an honor and a privilege to be serving as the new 2009- 2010 TNSA President.  I am a senior at Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing in Abilene, Texas. My nursing school is unique because it is comprised of three colleges in the area- Abilene Christian, McMurry, and Hardin-Simmons University.  I attend McMurry University.

This year I will be serving on the Policy Committee and the TNA/TNSA Common Interest & Goals Committee.   The TNA/TNSA committee will allow TNSA to network with TNA members.  One of my goals this year is to build a stronger bond between TNA and TNSA. I think it is important for future and recent graduates to keep an active voice in nursing once they graduate.  My goal for the Policy Committee is to establish and maintain a stronger parliamentary procedure among the House of Delegates. The board plans to hold a learning session during the Council of Schools  2009 Convention in Austin.

My overall goals for the upcoming year include increasing involvement statewide and educating other fellow nursing students the importance of networking and communication among one another and to seek mentorship from more experienced nurses.  I encourage all nursing students to step out of their box and start exploring all the potential options nursing has to offer once they graduate.

I would like to welcome the new members of TNSA and also congratulate all nursing students who have made it through this last year of school.  Each one of you has had one struggle or another to get to where you are today!  Take pride in your accomplishment and don’t forget how hard you have worked to get to where you are because there are still many challenges ahead.  Just remember to learn from these challenges and use them to make you a better person in life.

I would like to congratulate the senior nursing students.  This year will go by extremely fast!  I wish you the best throughout the year.  I would like you to take a moment and reflect on your previous nursing experiences.   Also, remember your first day of nursing school and look at where you are now.  With that in mind, I would like to encourage you to be a mentor to the new nursing students in your program.  Encourage involvement and set a good example!

We have an outstanding board this year! I am so excited to be working with them.  If you have any questions, concerns, or any ideas about TNSA please feel free to contact me or one of the other board members.  We are here for you!

Best wishes for a smooth and successful school year.

Greetings From TNSA President

Hello Future Nurses!  Welcome back to a new semester filled with opportunities to learn new skills and meet new people.  I am Cindy Trask, your 2009 – 2010 TNSA Vice President, and I attend North Central Texas College in Gainesville, TX.  I have a passion for emergency care and when I graduate I plan to work with children and adults in an Emergency Department at a hospital near Dallas, TX.  I am starting my second semester of nursing school, so I completely understand balancing school, work, and family.

As Vice President I will organize, with the help of the Board of Directors, an annual Council of Schools workshop, and be responsible, along with the Administrative director, for coordinating the annual State Convention.  I am also chair of the Membership Committee.  I am so excited to serve all of you this year and eager to bridge the gap between the local, state, and national levels.  There are many benefits to participating in TNSA and I am devoted to getting the word out to new and returning students.  Good Luck to you all this semester and I look forward to seeing you September 25th - September 26th at the Council of Schools in Austin, Texas.

TNSA Vice-President

Hello, my name is Melissa Duffy. I am currently a second semester student at Covenant School of Nursing in Lubbock, Texas, where I previously served as the local chapter Projects co-chair. I am a blessed wife and proud mother of four energetically handsome boys. I will be graduating from CSON in December of 2010. I then plan on continuing my education while working.  Nursing is definitely a calling and passion that I have dreamed of following for many years.

Now, thanks to your vote and confidence I am serving as the 2009-2010 TNSA Board of Directors Secretary/Treasurer. My duties involve taking care of finances for the current activity year, and handling all the minutes for any board meeting we hold.  I truly believe this is going to be an excellent year for TNSA, with a lot of great things is store.  Council of Schools is just around the corner and I look forward to seeing some familiar faces and also meeting many new future nurses. I want to encourage each of you to get involved in the local and state level as much as time will allow you to do. I would like any of you that serve as an officer in your local chapter to know that we as your board will make ourselves readily available for any questions or concerns you may have about making your local chapter as successful as possible. Remember, we as future nurses have very similar goals and if we work together nothing can hold us back. To any of you reading this, who are serving as Secretary or Treasurer for your school, do not hesitate to contact me through our TNSA website for any help or questions. Blessings to each and every one of you during your journey to becoming an excellent nurse!
