Hope everyone had a relaxing and stress-free summer!   First, I would like to welcome new TNSA members and congratulate new nursing students.  Second, I would like to ask, "Are you ready for Oliveti?"  For those of you who missed elections, my slogan at convention was "Get ready for Oliveti!"  With that being said, I want all of you to "get ready" to read and understand that The Central Line is more than a type of intravenous therapy; it is TNSA's online publication.  My goal is to get as many members as possible reading The Central Line.  To do this, I will need everyone's help and support telling their peers about The Central Line as well as how to access it.

Now for a little about myself:  I am graduating this December with my BSN from The University of Texas at Austin!  I was born and raised in the DFW area and have lived in Texas my whole life.  I am 22-years-old and I have a twin sister who is enrolled at The Univeristy of Oklahoma.  You cannot even imagine the rivalry during Red River Shoot Out (TX/OU Weekend).  This past summer, I participated in the nurse externship program at Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas.  I must say it was one of the best experiences of my life.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding The Central Line publication, or if you would like to write an article updating TNSA on your schools' current events.  Hope to see you all at Council of Schools!

Nursing Students Have Many Options

Hi.  My name is Aleisha Finley and I am your Nominations and Elections Chair (NEC) for this 2008-2009 year.  I am currently in my last semester of nursing school at Collin College, located in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.  I am married, almost 5 years, with a 4-year-old son and expecting baby number two.

I guess I thought I had it all figured out when I got into nursing school.  My plan was set, I had done my research, and I was ready to begin my journey in getting my masters degree in nursing and my CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist) license.  That was a little over a year and a half ago, and boy, my world, my mind, my life and my plans have changed!!!  Throughout my time in nursing school, which feels like a million years, I have been exposed to so many clinical areas and nursing professionals.  I am now overwhelmed with making the decision about where I want to begin my career as a nurse. Do I really want to continue my education now, or do I want to get out there in the working world and put all of this knowledge and skill to use?  When I do finally make my decision, I know it will be a good one because even if I want to change my mind that is an option I have!

How fortunate we are to be entering a profession that has so many options and avenues to take.  Although nursing school can be mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting, always try to look at the bright side and realize how lucky we all are to have chosen one of the most rewarding and advancing careers in the world today!  Good luck to everyone, and I sincerely hope you all have a great year!

Hi, my name is Tammy Corson and I am the president of the UT Tyler's chapter of TNSA.  I wanted to take a moment and inform my fellow TNSA members about a fundraising opportunity my chapter has worked so diligently on this summer. Our chapter will be hosting The Student Nurses’ Association's 1st Health, Fitness, & Safety Fair on October 11, 2008 from 10 am to 3pm at the Evangelistic Temple in Palestine, Texas.

When we had our first board meeting in May, we were trying to think of a way to raise money.  We decided to have a garage sale.  Since we are nursing students we wanted to have a bit more to offer than your average garage sale.  Therefore, we decided to add a health fair component to our sale.  That way we could attract both people who normally make the rounds of health fairs and people who normally do not go to health fairs but would come to a garage sale.  The idea was once people saw everything that was going on with the health fair they would walk over and check it out.....giving us the opportunity to provide some health and safety education.  None of us had ever attempted anything like this before.

So we started making phone calls and it has grown, and grown and grown!  We had to move locations (continued on Page Four)
