As everyone begins a new semester at school, we all question, “How much more!?” Today we go to school and cram our ever-absorbent brains with critical thinking and skills. But, what about tomorrow?

Come to Council of Schools in San Antonio, Texas September 28-29, 2007 and learn how to prepare yourself for life after nursing school. “Student’s Today, Nurses Tomorrow” will be the theme. At the Omni San Antonio Hotel we will have break-out sessions, meals and guest speakers. At the breakout sessions we will be focusing on what students need to prepare for after school is finished. These sessions will include: problems a nurse experience’s within the first 90 days after graduation, what offers to accept from hospitals and which offers to bypass, goals to set for after TNSA, scholarships, and tips on juggling parenting and nursing school. There will also be sessions on all the board positions in TNSA and tips for running for them at convention. Council of schools is the time to decide to run for an office. This allows time for you to prepare for your campaign and enjoy convention even more! We will also have a few keynote speakers that are all recent graduates. I am a senior nursing student at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. I will be graduating in December with my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. I am so excited to enter this wonderful profession.

Since the state convention, the board has been working diligently to plan exciting events to kick off the 2007-2008 school year. We are sure that everyone will enjoy what we have planned. I would like to urge each and every member to take advantage of Council of Schools in September and State Convention in February; here you will have the opportunity to learn about issues that affect the field of nursing and see how we as nursing students can make a difference.

I am so excited about this year and I hope to see all of you at Council of Schools in San Antonio. If you ever have any questions feel free to contact me at sec.treas@tnsa.org.
